My plan
I have an ambitious event schedule laid out for 2009.
The peak points are:
- LiveStrong Seattle (21 June, Seattle WA) — 100 mile bike ride
- Demi-Esprit Triathlon (12 September, Montreal CA) — Half-Iron Man
And to get there I’m finding a great event per month.
I am not an athlete, but I do enjoy the process of goal-seeking and achieving at the events. Unfortunately, the effort can be harder to maintain if it is exclusively driven by a “what if” or “why not” motivation. Once the fear of completion is dissipated, doing a recreational event is about what: vanity? (My results are certainly not cause for ego). And vanity is right next to laziness, and tends to bleed into training intensity.
My plan is to try fundraising as a counterpoint. This is one (of many) reasons why I am doing LiveStrong.
At a minimum, my plan is to donate the equal to all money I spend for these events. If the event (and travel, etc) is not worth it at twice the cost… it is not worth it.
